Three Ridges hike

We finally did the Three Ridges hike! This hike had been on my list for quite some time, so it felt good to finally get on it and see the beautiful mountains and woods I'd read and heard stories about. Friday night, we stayed at Sugar Tree Inn, just outside of Montebello, VA, in the George Washington Natl. Forrest. It's definitely one of our favorite places to get away and is situated in a central location to many great hikes in that region. We got to the trail head around 9:30 on Saturday morning and begun our hike shortly thereafter. We were both expecting cooler temperatures, but it there was still a nice breeze coming off the mountains to keep us cool. All in all, it was an awesome 15 mile hike with some great views, a few small waterfalls, and definitely some good climbs interspersed. We even ended up finding some awesome Chicken of the Woods mushrooms, which we totally weren't expecting at all. All in all, I probably harvested close to 5 or 6 lbs. of chanterelles and chicken of the woods.
Below are some pictures from the hike.

  1. MICHAEL! I am SO jealous of your hike, most of all because you found all of the wonderful mushrooms I have been searching for up here in Harrisonburg! That chicken of the woods is BEAUTIFUL and the chanterelles as well. What's the purple one? BTW, I still owe you a cold one.
